In 2016 I was put into a medically induced coma for 3 weeks because of a serious case of double lung pneumonia. While in the coma I developed ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome, a severe lung failure with about a 20% chance of survival!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning about the spoon theory is helping me to learn how to live my life, without beating myself up mentally, now that I have a physical disability that means I’m no longer able to physically or mentally do what you used to be able to do. Being potentially seen as ‘lazy’ is a very hard stigma to overcome, especially when it’s coming from your own mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know many of us have family or friends in a coma from the coronavirus right now and it is extremely scary. I’m sharing my personal coma and the spoon theory experience with you in the hopes that my story will help you to understand what it’s like to be a disabled person you can be kinder to yourself if you are also disabled. But also to help you if you know someone who has a disability so you can help them cope with their new life and deal with all the after affects too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
