In July I posted the first barbie cake I created. Since that first cake, I have received quite a few requests for barbie cakes.
This one was for the daughter of the boyfriend of one of my friends. It can get confusing at times, remembering who the cakes were for. The little girl turned 7 or 8 I think. It has been a few years.
The fun thing about these type of cakes is that I get to create cool clothes as well as a cake. I love both of those crafts, this is where I can let my creative juices really flow.
I used a lot of fondant in this cake. Barbie’s top is fondant as well. The jewellery is icing and the pattern on the dress is painted on with food colouring.
I had to do something with Barbie’s hair as well, so it would fit with her elaborate dress.
The background of the picture by the way, is part of our fantastic view from our patio in New Zealand.
I had a lot of fun creating this cake and the girls at the party were very hesitant to eat the cake because it looked soo cool. Her dad did not mind just having the icing of the cake ;o)
