Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Animal Cakes – Dolphin Cake

My son absolutely loves dolphins.

He would love to ride a dolphin some day, we came very close earlier this year, when we were on a cruise and visited Curaçao.

The timing just did not work out, besides that, he was too young still to actually be allowed to ride a dolphin. We will visit Curaçao more often because we happen to have family there, so he will get his chance.

So instead I made him this cake with him riding a dolphin.

For this cake, I used my family recipe sponge cake. To decorate it, I used butter cream icing for the sides and the waves.

Then for the dolphin and the person I used fondant and painted it with food colouring afterwards.

It is a fairly simple cake with a great effect. The dolphin and the person took a bit of creative sculpting.

My son was very pleased with his cake and wished the dolphin was real. He will have to wait another year or two before he is old enough.
