Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Specialty Cakes – Opt-in Page Cake

Optin Page CakeThis was a cake I made for my hubbie’s birthday.

He is my techie and geek (besides being a great father and husband). He does all the behind the scenes stuff (the technical stuff) for my websites and the programming. So I thought it would be appropriate to make him a, slightly lower tech, website.

He is not your typical computer nerd though, he is into lots of sports, and no, not chess and checkers, but sailing, squash, rowing etc. and like me, he loves to travel.

That particular year my hubbie had set up my personal blog, AmandavanderGulik.com for me on my birthday, so it was more than appropriate for me to do sort of the same.

The idea was easy, we were in the process of updating some of our sites and a lot of other people on the internet just started doing video optin or squeeze pages.
So I decided to make a video squeeze page, with a header, a catchy headline, a cool looking video and an optin form.

It almost looks real and my husband suggested for me to make a cake to use for the background of a squeeze page for this site (FunCakeDecoratingIdeas.com)
I haven’t done this yet but I might do that soon.

Needless to say that my husband was very surprised and he liked the cake idea very much. He blew out his candle and got to eat the optin button.

I am not sure if all his dreams have come true yet, although I am sure some of them have.

I had fun creating the cake and experimented a bit with the icing. The letters on the “Header” have a shadow effect, which I created by writing the letters in white first and then I traced them very thinly with black icing. This is sort of how my hubbie creates shadow effect for letters on graphics as well.

The edges of the cake are decorated with butter-cream icing and the rest of the decoration is done with royal icing.

The cake itself was my well known sponge cake and again with a bit of creativity and imagination, a fairly ordinary square cake turned out to be quite spectacular and very different from any cake I have ever made before.

Not all our guests knew exactly what the cake was supposed to be, we do have friends that spend hardly any time online as well ;0)
