This week’s cake is, like last week, a flower cake. I decided to keep to the same theme.
This is a wedding cake I did for a friend. She absolutely loves Lilly of the valley.
She has a whole collection of dishes with Lilly of the valley on them and some beautiful paintings and photographs of the flower.
So whenever she has her birthday or you are looking for something to give her, anything with a Lilly of the valley on it would make her happy.
I am sure you have friends like that as well. Some of my other friends love elephants or flamingo’s or frogs or just birds in general.
Anyhow, when my friend announced that she was getting married, the choice of present was quite easy. I offered to make the cake and I created this Lilly of the valley cake.
It was a three tier cake, so there would be enough for everyone and his type of flower decoration really lends itself for bigger cakes, so it was perfect.
The cake is covered in marshmallow fondant. The purple base is actually not a solid colour, I marbled the purple to make it the flowers pop out better. The picture above does not do it much justice.
The little flowers, the vines and the leaves are all created with marshmallow fondant as well.
The entire wedding party consisted of about 60 people and at the end there was still some cake left. The wedding took place a few years ago, in a beautiful garden near Whangarei in New Zealand and the weather was absolutely perfect for an outdoor wedding.
