Next Sunday is Mother’s day. Always a good reason to first of all spoil mom and to make a cake.
I actually made the cake posted above for the birthday of my Mother’s best friend. Even though it was a simple birthday cake, this is the sort of cake you could make for Mother’s day as well.
For this cake I only my favourite family recipe sponge cake and for decoration I used fondant for the top and butter cream icing for the rest of the cake. I made the heart decorations out of some pink marshmallow fondant I had left over from a previous cake. I always freeze my left overs for when I may need them. Great tip by the way!
Everyone was amazed at those little hearts, they all thought for sure they were prepackaged candy hearts from the store, they couldn’t believe I made them just with my fingers, no punch or cutter! ;o) So cool!
The colours purple, pink and white always go well on a cake for a girl or mother and the more hearts the better. You could make a heart shaped cake too if you have a heart shaped baking pan or if want to get a bit more creative.
Make sure you spoil your mother and when you are a mother yourself, demand to get spoiled this weekend. This is your chance to do the things you want to do and have someone else take care of dinner ;0)
