Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Fantasy Cakes – Castle

Castle CakeAfter I had made the castle cake for my daughter, (see this post) one of her friends wanted a castle cake for her birthday as well.

Not one of my cakes are ever the same, so for this one I used whatever candies I happened to have and used them instead of fondant to decorate the cake with. I still used quite a bit of butter cream Icing to accentuate the outlines of the castle and to “glue” the candies on.

This time I used three cupcakes stacked on top of each other to create each of the four towers and then I covered them with white icing and again, I used a lot of the fruit shaped candies.

The entrance to the castle and the sides of the path are pretzel sticks. A bit different, because they can be quite salty but the kids did not seem to mind at all.

The biggest trick with cakes for other people is always getting them to their place. I made this cake when we were in New Zealand and where we live it is very rural and the roads are equally rural for the first few kilometers. The castle cake was quite sturdy and I always try to keep this in mind when I make cakes for others.

The girls at the party loved the cake and not much was left of the cake after the girls were done with it. It was a huge success!
