Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Animal Cake – Hippopotamus

How about this cake and that cute little girl?

This is a cake I made for my daughter when she turned Two. I can’t believe that it is already 7 years ago, two months ago she turned nine! You can see the cake I made for her 9th here.

We used to give our daughter animal shaped vitamins and the hippopotamus ones were her favourite. If you asked me, they all tasted the same, but she absolutely liked the hippopotamus ones the best.

So when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday cake, she was very adamant that it had to be a hippopotamus. She could actually say the whole word, which is quite impressive for a two year old. She has never had any trouble talking by the way, even when she had her expander. We thought the expander would deter her a bit but no, she would still talk your ears off.

Any how, she was soooo excited days before her birthday that she was going to have a hippopotamus cake that she constantly reminded me about it.

Then when the big moment was there, she absolutely loved it. The picture was taken just a moment before she blew out her candle. Shortly after that she had already ripped the legs off and was well into the cake.

I used a coloured marshmallow fondant and for the legs I actually used whole marshmallows and covered those with the fondant.
