Today is my birthday and I have made many cakes for my own birthday. Not this one, this cake was actually made and decorated by my husband and my kids.
The kids did most of the decorating and my husband did the writing. My daughter made sure the face on the cake looked like a girl and did that with the candies, making it look like lips with lipstick.
My husband got the recipe for the cake from me and I think we still had some coloured icing in the freezer, which is what they used. The icing is all butter cream this time around and no fondant was used at all.
The candies are the same ones I used on a Castle cake that I plan to post about next week.
The cake, as in almost every case, was my family recipe sponge cake. The thing I love about this recipe is that the cakes are always nice and moist. I don’t like it when you have a beautiful cake and then when you eat the cake, it is a very dense and dry cake. I know this is a personal thing, but it is my birthday and I can…….
As I said before, I have made cakes for my own birthday as well and I will posts about some of those in the future.
As for now, I will keep this short, as I have guests to attend to and eat my cake.

That is so sweet! My son helped make my mom’s mother’s day cake…it was a beautiful mess!!! It’s always so much fun to get that little extra special something from them and know they did their best!! Happy Birthday!
