Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Sport Cakes – Bowling Alley

Here is one of my recent sports themed cakes.

I am bowling in a ladies league once a week. It is really more about the social aspect than the bowling, but don’t tell anyone.

For Christmas we had a special, even more social, event and all the girls brought something special for a pot-luck Christmas dinner. I obviously opted for the desert.

So I made a bowling cake, the lane including the pins, gutters, the balls in the ball rack and a girl ready to bowl.

I tried to make the details on the lane reflect a real bowling lane. I borrowed one of my daughter’s Polly pockets and some marbles to complete the picture. Accessorizing makes the cake.

As you see, there are only 5 pins on the lane. In Canada we play 5 pin bowling. It is quite challenging, the lane is the same as the ten-pin, and the balls are a lot smaller and lighter. Because of this, you will see kids as young as 3 years old bowling. Our kids started when they were 5 and 6.

The girls at the league enjoyed the cake immensely and they can’t wait for the next event and see what I come up with.
