Fun Cake Decorating Ideas – Seasonal Cakes – Bonfire

Every fall or autumn when we are in Canada we have at least one bonfire in the backyard with friends. We have a huge fire-pit set up and we start the fire before sundown.

When the people start to arrive, the fire is just starting to create some heat. After a while, you will see everyone slowly move away from the fire, as the heat becomes quite intense.

We usually have some nice soup, drinks and various snacks. The highlight for most people are the smores. We have long sticks prepared and when we start roasting our marshmallows, it is always great to see the different approaches people have to roasting their marshmallows. There are always the ones that manage to burn their marshmallows.

Last fall, my kids were excited for weeks before the bonfire and they insisted on making a cake for desert.

They wanted it to be about the bonfire. The theme they came up with is people roasting their marshmallows at the bonfire. To make the people, they decided to use marshmallow because we always roast marshmallows when we have a bonfire….

The bonfire itself is made of licorice and the logs of the fire-pit are chocolate rectangles. The cake itself is again one of my famous family recipe sponge cake.

As you can see, the cake is a bit messy. My kids did all of it themselves and for a 6 and an 8 year old, the result is pretty amazing.

The cake tasted great and my kids will have to come up with something different this year.
